What
Two teams compete against each other in a fantastically designed wargame during a fictional battle.
In the role of brigade commander, you will maneuver your troops across the battlefield to successfully execute the mission given to you. You consult with your fellow commanders for the plan of action. Together you will provide the implementation to win this battle on the opponent.
Experience the excitement of warfare, dealing with uncertainties and the euphoric moments of “I love it when a plan comes together” (Hannibal Smith, A-team).
Together with our partner BelloLudi, we have developed the wargame “Commanding Waterloo” as a team-building exercise for participants who have no experience with it whatsoever.
How
After learning the simplified game rules for this wargame, we take you back in time to the last days of Napoleon. You will be given command of either the French (blue) or English (red) army. Together, you carry out a mission in which the blue and red sides battle each other, with tactics and dice rolls determining the outcome.
First, your team determines a strategy. The game materials are hand-painted miniatures that immediately capture your imagination. Then you line up the tin armies and start the battle. You will have to plan, improvise, consult, decide and (under)act.
You play in several rounds. Between rounds there is room to reflect and adjust your planning to the new reality. If you have made the opponent flee, the battle is won.
Reflection & debriefing
After each round we reflect within the team on the results achieved, the mutual cooperation and the necessary adjustments to the chosen strategy. Afterwards, we translate the insights gained into our own daily practice.
Who
Executive teams, management teams, service teams, game enthusiasts.
“Making agreements and sticking to them, that's the challenge!”
Summary
Wargame 'Commanding Waterloo'
It is June 21, 1815. Three days earlier, Waterloo has been lost to the French. Allied troops are advancing toward Paris. French units try to cut them off at the town of Beauvais, about 100 kilometers northwest of Paris. The armies march on each other, determined to drive out the enemy. There is not much daylight left to reach today's objectives, so both sides are in a hurry! You are commander of one of these brigades. Are you going to make history today?
